AIAA Region II Student Conference

Freshmen & Sophomore Open Topic Competition Rules

This year the Region II Student Conference is going to once again continue with a recently added paper competition category. The goal of this category is to provide experience in a paper competition without requiring the submissions to be held to the level of technical depth of the technical paper competition. Freshman and Sophomore students are welcome to submit their work in the technical paper competition instead if they feel that their work is better suited for that category.

  • The Open Topic category is open only to Freshman and Sophomores.
  • This category requires a paper to be submitted that follows the same formatting guidelines as the technical paper competition (Submitting Documents).
  • The presentation of work will follow the same guidelines as the technical paper competition (Details are listed on the Session Format).
  • No more than two student authors may prepare and/or present a paper in this category.
  • Any engineering related topic will be acceptable for this category (including aerospace historical topics).

Cash prizes will be award for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. The amount of the prizes will be $125 for 1st place, $75 for 2nd place, and $50 for 3rd place.
